Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted a new Express Entry draw on June 24, 2026. This draw specifically targeted physicians with Canadian work experience. As a result, IRCC invited 271 candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

To qualify, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 223. The relatively low CRS requirement highlights Canada's continued efforts to attract qualified healthcare professionals and address labor shortages in the medical sector.

Why Canada is Targeting Physicians

Canada continues to face growing demand for healthcare professionals across several provinces. To address workforce shortages, IRCC has been conducting targeted Express Entry draws for specific occupations and categories. Physicians with Canadian work experience are highly valued because they already possess familiarity with Canada's healthcare system and can contribute immediately to the country's medical workforce.

Understanding Express Entry Programs

IRCC manages three main economic immigration programs through the Express Entry system:
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Since June 2023, IRCC has conducted various types of draws, including general draws, program-specific draws, and category-based draws. This latest draw focused exclusively on physicians who have gained eligible work experience in Canada.

How CRS Scores Work

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) ranks candidates based on several factors, including:
  • Age
  • Education
  • Language proficiency
  • Skilled work experience
  • Canadian work experience
  • Additional factors such as job offers and provincial nominations
Candidates with higher CRS scores generally have a greater chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

Steps to Receive an ITA

If you plan to apply through Express Entry, follow these steps:
  1. Check your eligibility under an Express Entry program.
  2. Create your Express Entry profile.
  3. Obtain your CRS score.
  4. Enter the Express Entry pool.
  5. Receive an ITA if your score meets the draw requirements.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is Canada's online application management system for skilled immigration programs. It allows IRCC to select candidates based on their qualifications and CRS scores.

The system helps Canada attract skilled workers who can contribute to the country's economy and fill critical labor market gaps.
