It will cost $10,000 for aged parents of migrants to get admittance to a five-year Australian visa

Under the next week’s budget changes, Turnbull government expected to announce 15,000 new visas.

It will cost $10,000 of an aged parent of a migrant to get access to a five-year temporary visa. This is expected to b announced in the next week’s budget.

Before the approval of the visa the parents will need to hold a private health insurance and financially supported through a bond from their children, SBS reports.

Earlier on the eve of 2016 election Turnbull government promised aged parents visas that followed by a Labour announcement that Australian parents of permanent residents and citizens will be provided with a three-year visiting visa as long as they held a private health insurance, paid a $5,000 bond and were sponsored by their children.

In, September last year the Turnbull government released a discussion paper which had set the terms of parent visa. The assistant immigration minister, Alex Hawke, said that the program will be in place by July 2017.

The non-contributory aged parent visa has a processing time of 30 years as of now.  As per the discussion paper, 1,500 places were available at the fee cost of $5,935 for the main applicant and $4000 for their spouse and de facto partner in 2015-16

Whereas the contributory aged parent visa is processed in two years time, however, at much higher fees of $47,295 and the fees of the main applicant of $44,845 for their spouse and de facto partner. In this category, they were 7,175 places in 2015-16.

Without an addition of extra cost to the health system, government will help families to reunite, said by the immigration minister Pete Dutton, at the time of election announcements.

“The Coalition recognises that many Australians, including our growing south Asian and Chinese communities, face particular pressures through separation of the children from parents and grandparents, “Dutton said. “ We want to help families reunite and spend time together while ensuring we do so in a way that does not burden Australia’s healthcare system.”

The changes in the migration come after both the Coalition and the Labor party announced crackdowns on the temporary worker visa system.

The Business Council of Australia’s chief executive, Jennifer Westacott, told recently “fear-mongering” on 457 visas did not match the evidence.

The number of eligibility categories was cut down along with 457 temporary worker visas by Malcolm Turnbull.

The establishment of “Smart visa” ensures highly skilled migrants consider Australia. On Wednesday, Bill Shorten promised to triple the cost of temporary work visa with a view of encouraging employers to look locally.

In addition to this Westacott said data showed 457 visa holders represent about 0.8% of the total employees and just over 1% of all 457 visa sponsor engaged in serious non-compliance per year- a consistent figure over the past decade.

She also said that Australian businesses prefer to hire Australians whenever possible because it was easier, cheaper and workers have valuable local knowledge as well as skills.

Australia’s skills base would be jeopardised by political posturing. Westacott warned during her recent debate to provide an opportunity to ensure the visa scheme had integrity and public confidence.

“But if this becomes driven by political posturing rather than evidence, we risk jeopardising the skills base we need no power our changing and globally oriented economy,” Westacott said. “Fear-mongering around foreign workers allegedly taking Australians job is simply not matched by the data, which shows the number of primary 457 visa holders was 81,300 in December, down 5.4% from the year earlier.”

“If we’re serious about getting Australians into skilled jobs, we need to revitalize our neglected vocational education and training system so it’s no longer treated like poor cousins of the universities.”
