In a major boost for Indian travellers, Thailand has announced a 60-day visa-free entry for Indian passport holders, along with the option to extend the stay by an additional 30 days.

The decision upgrades Indian nationals from the earlier 30-day Visa-on-Arrival facility and includes them in Thailand’s “Form 60” visa exemption list, which now covers 93 nationalities. The announcement was confirmed by Airin Phanrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office.

Indian tourism to Thailand has seen strong growth after the pandemic, with visitor numbers crossing 2 million in 2025. The extended visa-free stay is expected to further strengthen travel, tourism, and business ties between the two countries.

What the New Rule Means for Indian Travellers

Under the revised policy, Indian passport holders can enter Thailand without applying for a visa in advance and stay for up to 60 days for tourism, short-term business, or leisure purposes. A further 30-day extension can be requested within Thailand, subject to immigration approval.

Earlier, Indians were eligible only for a 30-day Visa-on-Arrival. With this update, India is now part of Thailand’s broader visa-exemption framework.

The Thai embassy clarified that Indian nationals are eligible for visa exemption for tourism or leisure travel until further notice and may stay for up to 60 days without obtaining a prior visa.

Mandatory Requirements for Entry

Travellers must carry:
  • Genuine proof of accommodation for the entire stay
  • A completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), to be submitted three days before travel
  • A confirmed return flight ticket
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card, introduced by the Immigration Bureau, has been mandatory since May 1, 2025, replacing the earlier system.

Broader Visa Reforms in Thailand

The 60-day visa-free entry is part of wider reforms introduced throughout 2025. Thailand has simplified visa categories and expanded its electronic visa services globally. As of January 1, 2025, e-visa services are available through all Thai embassies and consulates worldwide.

The government has also reduced Non-Immigrant visa categories from 17 to seven, effective August 31, 2025, to streamline procedures.

New Options for Remote Workers and Students

Thailand previously launched the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), designed for digital nomads and remote professionals who wish to live and work in the country for extended periods.

Additionally, a new Non-Immigrant ED Plus visa has been introduced for foreign nationals pursuing study or combined study-and-work arrangements under special provisions.

While authorities have welcomed longer stays, officials have also cautioned against misuse of visa exemptions. A dedicated Visa Policy Committee has been set up to monitor and refine the country’s visa framework.

What’s Next?

Thailand is considering adding eight more countries to its Visa-on-Arrival list under a second expansion phase. There is also an ongoing review of long-stay visa criteria, especially for retirees.

With simplified procedures, expanded visa-free access, and digital upgrades, Thailand is clearly positioning itself as a more accessible destination for global travellers — and Indian tourists are set to benefit significantly from the latest changes.
