India Discusses 1 Million Homes Project in Australia, Seeks UAE’s Support
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has revealed that India is holding advanced talks with Australia to develop one million homes. He described the plan as a $500 billion opportunity and confirmed that India has also approached the UAE for financial assistance.
Talks with Australia
Speaking at an industry event, Goyal said he is in active discussions with his Australian counterpart to address the housing gap in the country. He emphasized the huge scale of the plan, pointing out that the construction of one million homes could transform both the real estate and employment sectors.
While he did not share specific details such as location or financial commitments, Goyal explained that India is proposing to send skilled workers to Australia. These workers would receive training to meet local standards and then participate in building the houses.
Housing Shortage in Australia
Reports indicate that Australia is facing a serious supply-demand imbalance in the housing market. Rising prices and affordability concerns have made housing a top political and social issue. The proposed project could help ease the pressure while also opening opportunities for Indian workers abroad.
UAE’s Role in Funding
Goyal also disclosed that India is in talks with the UAE to support the initiative financially. During a meeting with UAE’s Trade Minister Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, he proposed a partnership model to fund the project. The UAE has been a strong investor in India’s real estate market, and its involvement could make this plan viable.
India’s Wider Trade Engagements
The housing project comes at a time when India is actively expanding its global trade ties.- Goyal said that a free trade agreement with Oman could be signed within two weeks.
- A deal with New Zealand is expected in the next two months.
- Talks with the European Union are progressing, with hopes of concluding an agreement by year-end.
Looking Ahead
According to Goyal, such initiatives highlight how global partners are turning to India for collaboration. He urged Indian industries to take advantage of these opportunities, stressing that missing out could mean losing strategic ground. To Stay Updated on Australian Immigration News, Subscribe to Immigration Experts
