The OINP tech draw released with the lowest CRS score requirement with a drop of 46 points from the last provincial tech Draw

May 13, 2020

The provincial nominee program of Ontario invited a total of 703 Express Entry applicants to apply through its provincial nomination program for permanent immigration to Canada on May 13.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued invitations to those applicants who already has a previous work experience under one of the following six tech sector occupations:

  • Computer and Information System managers (NOC 0213)
  • Computer Engineers (NOC 2147)
  • Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
  • Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
  • Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)

The Express Entry candidates that were invited in this recent OINP draw were required to have Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores that range between 421 and 451. This particular CRS requirement is the lowest in the history of OINP draw that was first started in July 2019.

All those eligible candidates who were issued an invitation to apply (ITA) through the latest OINP Tech Draw will be awarded an additional 600 CRS points towards their current score within the Express Entry System; and will therefore be guaranteed an ITA in the subsequent Federal Express Entry Draw. The province of Ontario is one of the nine provinces across Canada that invites eligible candidates through their own provincial nominee programs (PNP) that in turn are directly linked with the Express Entry System. Quebec is the only province in Canada that does not have its own Provincial Nominee Program.

Candidates, who receive a Letter of Nomination or a Notification of Interest (NOI) from Ontario, should be eligible for the Human Capital Priorities Stream.

How does the Tech Draw works

The OINP tech Draws that are conducted towards immigration to Canada through the Human Capital Priorities Stream, which enables the OINP to search within the federal Express Entry pool for those skilled and talented candidates who meet the eligibility requirement of the stream.

A job offer is not mandatory in order to become eligible to apply under the Human Capital Priorities Stream. However, applicants need to have their profile created in the Express Entry System.

The main purpose of these Tech Draws is to search for the eligible Express Entry candidates who should be having a minimum of one year of continuous, full-time and paid work experience or an equivalent paid part-time work experience, in one of the six technology sector occupations, mentioned above.

Along with some other recently held Express Entry aligned PNP draws, this draw led to the selection of even more number of tech professionals being selected through a provincial nominee program for Canadian immigration.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic situation across the country, some of the top tech companies of Canada are currently conducting hiring, and are determined to help in the economic recovery in Canada.

The Federal Government of Canada is giving more power to all its provinces when it comes to selecting new foreign skilled immigrants. You should be aware that some of the provincial nominations result in an addition of 600-points towards your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of the Express Entry System but some of these PNP streams does not work in direct alignment with the larger Express Entry System.
