Why This Update Matters
The Victorian Government continues to attract skilled workers who can support economic growth and regional development. As a result, this announcement provides clear information on visa places, eligibility rules, and the steps needed to secure a Victorian nomination.
2025–26 Skilled Visa Allocation
The Department of Home Affairs has allocated 3,400 nomination places to Victoria for the new program year. These places are divided into two visa subclasses:
-
Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190): 2,700 places
-
Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491): 700 places
This distribution shows Victoria’s commitment to building a strong workforce across Melbourne and regional areas.
Program Now Officially Open
Both visa categories are now accepting applications from eligible candidates.
Subclass 190: Skilled Nominated VisaThis permanent visa allows skilled workers to live and work anywhere in Victoria. It suits applicants whose occupations are in demand and who meet the state’s nomination criteria.
Subclass 491: Skilled Work Regional Visa
This is a five-year provisional visa with a pathway to permanent residency. To qualify for PR later, applicants must live and work in regional Victoria for at least three years. This approach continues to support regional skill shortages and long-term development.
EOI and ROI Are Mandatory
To be considered for a nomination, applicants must complete two key steps.
Step 1: Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI)
Submit or update your EOI in the SkillSelect system. Make sure your points, skills, and experience are correct and current.
Step 2: Submit a Registration of Interest (ROI)
After completing your EOI, submit your ROI in the Live in Melbourne portal.
The ROI helps Victoria assess your profile based on factors such as industry demand, skills, and work experience. Only selected applicants will receive an invitation.
