UAE Launches 30-Minute Return Document for Golden Visa Holders Abroad
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of the United Arab Emirates has launched a new digital service for Golden Visa holders. It helps residents who lose their passports abroad by offering a free electronic Return Document. This document lets them re-enter the UAE within 30 minutes of approval.
A Lifeline for Stranded Residents
This new service acts as a quick return solution for Golden Visa residents and their dependents. It allows them to come back to the UAE quickly if their passports are lost or damaged.
Applicants can use the MoFA website or mobile app to apply. They must log in with their UAE Pass ID and upload a lost passport report, Golden Visa details, and a recent photo.
Once approved, the Return Document is sent electronically. It remains valid for a single entry into the UAE and expires seven days after issue. The service also applies to dependents, including spouses and children listed under the visa holder’s residency. This ensures families are not stranded abroad during emergencies.
According to MoFA, this initiative supports the government’s goal of improving the safety and mobility of long-term residents who contribute to the UAE’s economy.
Enhanced Consular Support Framework
The Return Document is part of a wider consular support package developed with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP). The service was showcased at GITEX Global 2025, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to smart digital solutions.
The new framework includes:
-
A 24/7 hotline for Golden Visa holders abroad: +971 2 493 1133
-
Emergency and crisis support, including evacuation and repatriation during disasters
-
Repatriation and burial support in the case of death abroad
These measures ensure consistent and reliable help for Golden Visa holders worldwide.
Strengthening the Golden Visa Program
The Golden Visa, introduced in 2019, offers long-term residency to investors, entrepreneurs, professionals, and top students. It provides several benefits:
-
No need for a local sponsor
-
Freedom to change jobs or start a business
-
Ability to sponsor family members of any age
-
Permission to stay abroad for long periods without losing residency
With the launch of the 30-minute Return Document and stronger consular support, the UAE has made its Golden Visa system even more attractive. It now stands among the world’s most convenient long-term residency programs.
Travel Tips for Golden Visa Holders
When travelling abroad, Golden Visa holders should keep a few things in mind:
-
Always carry digital and printed copies of your passport and visa.
-
Apply for a Return Document through MoFA’s portal or app immediately if your passport is lost.
-
Call the 24-hour hotline during emergencies such as political unrest or natural disasters.
-
Note that the Return Document is valid only for entry into the UAE, not for further international travel.
A Step Toward Smarter Global Mobility
This new service highlights the UAE’s continued focus on innovation and resident welfare. By enabling a 30-minute re-entry process, the government is reducing stress for travelers and providing peace of mind to long-term residents.
Moreover, the initiative strengthens the bond between the UAE and its growing expat community. It turns the Golden Visa from a simple residence permit into a symbol of stability, security, and trust.
Ultimately, this move reflects the UAE’s vision to become a global leader in efficient, tech-driven public services — ensuring residents always feel supported, no matter where they are.
