More Skilled Visa Places Confirmed

Although the full nomination quota for the 2025–26 program year has not yet been finalized, the Australian Government has issued a further interim allocation to all states and territories.

For Tasmania, the new allocation adds 450 skilled visa nomination places, divided as follows:

  • 300 places for the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa

  • 150 places for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) visa

This addition brings relief to many skilled migrants who have been waiting since the program’s opening. It also enables Migration Tasmania to invite more applicants from its Registrations of Interest (ROI) pool.

Program Expansion for 2025–26

The 2025–26 Tasmanian Skilled Migration Program opened for new ROIs on 14 October 2025. Initially, invitations were limited to candidates holding a Gold Pass because of the smaller interim allocation.

Now, with extra places confirmed, Migration Tasmania will start weekly invitation rounds. These rounds will cover candidates across Gold, Green, and Orange Pass categories. This expansion ensures fairer access and creates more opportunities for skilled workers contributing to Tasmania’s economic growth.

Weekly Invitation Rounds Begin

From now on, invitations will be issued each week. Migration Tasmania will review applicants in the ROI pool and select those who meet the state’s skill needs.

Each week, the Migration Tasmania website will share clear and updated information, including:

  • The number of ROIs invited to apply for nomination

  • The lowest scores invited in each category

  • The remaining nomination places available

  • The total number of ROIs on hand

These updates will make the process more transparent and help applicants understand their position in upcoming rounds.

Boosting Tasmania’s Workforce

This extra allocation highlights Tasmania’s goal to fill critical skill shortages across sectors like healthcare, construction, education, and advanced manufacturing. Skilled migrants are vital to Tasmania’s growth, and this move shows the state’s commitment to supporting both local industries and its workforce needs.

Migration Tasmania encourages professionals, graduates, and skilled workers—especially those already living or studying in Tasmania—to register their interest on the official portal.

Final Allocation Coming Soon

The final program allocation for 2025–26 will be announced by the Australian Government in the coming weeks. After confirmation, Migration Tasmania may adjust its invitation schedule or nomination goals accordingly.

Until then, the extra 450 places will help maintain momentum and keep Tasmania competitive in attracting top talent.
