Candidates with job experience in one of six tech occupations were asked to apply for Express Entry.

Ontario invited 1,406 Express Entry applicants with a professional expertise in tech on October 27.

Candidates who may be qualified for Ontario's Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream were asked to apply. They required an Express Entry profile with a Comprehensive Ranking System score of 455 and 467.

Candidates must also have one year of work experience in one of the following fields:

• Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213);

• Computer engineers (NOC 2147);

• Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172);

• Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173);

• Computer programmer and interactive media developers (NOC 2174); or

• Web designers and developers (NOC 2175).

Candidates who cannot demonstrate job experience in one of these occupations will be denied, according to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) website. In addition, invited applicants with foreign education may be required to submit an Educational Credential Assessment so that the OINP may certify that their education is  equivalent to a Canadian bachelor's degree.

Those who have been invited to apply for Ontario's Provincial Nominee Program have 45 calendar days to do so.

Those who are nominated by Ontario will gain an additional 600 CRS points toward their total score in the Express Entry system. This boost ensures that the successful applicants will get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the next round of invites. Anyone who receives a provincial nomination from an Express Entry-aligned PNP is subject to this rule.

This is the second Tech Draw of the year in Ontario. More than 1,100 applicants were asked to seek for the provincial nomination in the first draw.

Through its Human Capital Priorities stream, Ontario nominated 1,996 Express Entry applicants last year. Candidates with work experience or employment offers as software engineers, computer programmers, interactive media developers, and others received about 20% of nominations.
