
Maximizing Immigration Benefits with Mutual Cooperation in Canada, Ontario
A mutually benefitting agreement between Ontario and Canada was signed today in Queen’s Park in a proper ceremony by both the Ministers (Honourable Ahmed Hussen of IRC and Honourable Laura Albanese of Citizenship and Immigration of Ontario)
The COIA (Canada - Ontario Immigration Agreement) is setup with a blueprint in order to reinforce the long standing partnership between Canada and Ontario embrace the immigrants into the country and help them to settle in ensuring both the economy and country’s humanitarian responsibilities are boosted to next level. The contract also provides a rough sketch according proper authority and role to individuals; along with setting priorities in selected policy and program integrity for immigration and attracting immigrants as well as refugees fluent with French language.
Highlights of COIA
- Canada’s new multi-year levels plan is to welcome about 1 million new permanent residents Canada immigrants by the year 2020. Ontario is considered to be one of the top province for new immigrants in Canada.
- COIA will guide the agreement on immigration between Canada and Ontario up to next 5 years.
- COIA takes effect immediately, including additions that detail particular arrangements on both provincial nominees and foreign workers. In the time ahead, additional annexes are planned that will set out Canada-Ontario joint cooperation on French-speaking immigrants, international students, and the role of municipal governments as partners in immigration.
- The Government of Canada is investing more than $334 million in settling the newly joined Permanent Residents in Ontario for the year 2017-18.
- In 2017-2018, Ontario is investing over $110 million in newcomer and refugee supports including language training, settlement and employment programs.
