Electronic visas (e-Visas) have become the preferred choice for Indian travellers in 2025, with 82% of all visa applications filed online. This marks a rise from 79% in 2024, according to a new report by visa processing platform Atlys.

Surge in E-Visa Adoption

Over the past decade, e-Visas have transformed international travel. Countries worldwide are shifting to digital entry systems to simplify access and attract Indian tourists. In 2025, the UAE, Vietnam, and Indonesia ranked as the most popular e-Visa destinations for Indians, followed closely by Hong Kong and Egypt.

Why Indians Prefer E-Visas

E-Visas allow travellers to apply online, receive quick approvals, and plan trips at short notice. According to Mohak Nahta, Founder and CEO of Atlys:

“Indian travellers value speed and certainty. E-Visas make last-minute and short-haul trips far more feasible, while boosting tourism inflows for host countries.”

Expanding Global Access

In 2025, over 50 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, and Latin America offered e-Visas or electronic travel authorisations (eTAs) for Indian passport holders.

  • Asia: Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia offer stay durations from 14 to 90 days.
  • Africa: Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Morocco allow 30–90 day visits with e-Visas.
  • Europe: Albania, Moldova, and Russia now accept digital applications.
  • Americas & Caribbean: Cuba, Suriname, Colombia, and the Bahamas have rolled out e-Visas.
  • Oceania: Australia and New Zealand continue to enhance e-Visa and eTA systems for Indians.

Strong Growth in New Destinations

Sri Lanka recorded the highest growth in demand, with Indian e-Visa applications increasing nearly seven-fold in 2025 compared to 2024. Georgia also saw a 2.6x rise, indicating that Indians are exploring emerging travel corridors beyond traditional hubs.
