Canada’s federal government has officially confirmed the opening of the 2025 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)—a major route for families aiming to reunite permanently in Canada.

Official Announcement – July 16, 2025
Beginning July 28, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will start issuing invitations for the PGP. This process will run for about two weeks, with a maximum of 10,000 complete applications to be accepted in 2025.Who is Eligible to Receive an Invitation?
Only individuals who submitted an Interest to Sponsor form in 2020 and have not yet been invited will be considered this time. IRCC has confirmed it will not reopen the Interest to Sponsor submission for 2025 due to the large number of existing applications. If you applied in 2020, be sure to check:- Your primary email inbox
- Your junk/spam folders
- The email you used when submitting in 2020
What to Do If You Get an Invitation:
Selected sponsors will receive detailed instructions from IRCC. You’ll need to:- Gather required documents (proof of relationship, income, ID, etc.)
- Complete the application process as per IRCC guidelines
Not Invited? Consider the Super Visa Option
If you’re not selected in this PGP round, your parents and grandparents may still be able to come to Canada through the Super Visa route. Super Visa at a Glance:- Multiple-entry visa valid up to 10 years
- Stay up to 5 years per visit
- Extensions up to 2 additional years possible without leaving Canada
- Must meet certain eligibility requirements
- The 2025 PGP intake continues from the 2020 submissions
- Selection is based on a lottery system, ensuring fairness
- PGP offers permanent residency, unlike temporary visas
