By the end of 2021, Canada wants to welcome 1 million immigrants into its border. The Great White North is a nation of immigrants and will remain so under the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Immigration plans are frequently being released and revamped in order to facilitate incoming immigrants and refugees.   Canada is now a contrasting figure to the United States. President Donald Trump has unabashedly depicted his contempt of immigrants and has put the US government into shutdown for his wall. He adamantly holds the view that immigrants, especially from developing countries make his country a bad place.   While supporting the recent announcements, Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada said, “Thanks in great part to the newcomers we have welcomed throughout our history, Canada has developed into the strong and vibrant country we all enjoy. Immigrants and their descendants have made immeasurable contributions to Canada, and our future success depends on continuing to ensure they are welcomed and well-integrated.”   The IRCC also released a complete document with supporting statistics to show the positive impact immigration has on the country. For instance, it was concluded that the economic immigrants residing in Canada for at least 5 years exceeded Canadian average earnings by 6% and were 15-24% more likely to be working than Canadian-born residents.   Currently, Canada has a population of 3.67 crores out of which 67.75 lakhs are immigrants. This means that one out of every 5 Canadian is actually an immigrant. The staggering number of immigrants in Canada and their positive impact on the economy has been appreciated by the people of the country. Hence, immigration will keep on increasing to support declining population.
