On February 16, the event was aired live on the Canadian Club Toronto website.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While the immigration minister stated that no date has been set for CEC draws to restart, he did imply that they will resume &#8220;shortly&#8221; and that Express Entry would begin to seem more regular in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We do need to resume federal skilled worker draws in the near future,&#8221; Fraser said. &#8220;If you look at the immigration levels plan over the next several years, the balance is moving back, and by year three&#8230; a record number of federal skilled workers will be welcomed to Canada, including through the Canadian Experience Class.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By no means do I want to communicate that there will be any kind of abandonment of\u2014what I would argue\u2014is one of the most successful immigration programs anywhere in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fraser also stated that he would want to see the Express Entry system become more flexible. Express Entry, he suggested, could be used to meet short-term needs such as welcoming people into smaller communities, high-demand sectors, and &#8220;people who are coming from a particular region that has the kind of educational institutions that will train the workers we need in strategically important sectors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;I&#8217;m personally digging into building this flexibility into the Express Entry system right now because I think it&#8217;ll help us to adapt in a more fluid way when we see the rate of transition only rising over time,&#8221; Fraser said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a discussion with Canadian immigration lawyers, Fraser hinted that occupation-specific Express Entry draws may be a possibility in the future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of Fraser&#8217;s goals outlined in his ministerial mandate letter is expanding Express Entry options to permanent residency for international students and temporary foreign employees. He&#8217;s also in charge of extending the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot and pushing forward with the Municipal Nominee Program to ensure that immigration better helps small and medium-sized towns.
