{"id":11648,"date":"2021-12-23T13:55:25","date_gmt":"2021-12-23T13:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.immigrationxperts.com\/updates\/?p=11648"},"modified":"2021-12-23T13:55:25","modified_gmt":"2021-12-23T13:55:25","slug":"government-temporarily-expands-access-to-lockdown-program-and-worker-lockdown-benefit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.immigrationxperts.com\/updates\/government-temporarily-expands-access-to-lockdown-program-and-worker-lockdown-benefit\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Temporarily Expands Access to Lockdown Program and Worker Lockdown Benefit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>December 22, 2021 &#8211; Ottawa, Ontario &#8211; Department of Finance Canada<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Government of Canada is committed to supporting Canadian workers and businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, announced the federal government\u2019s intention to temporarily expand eligibility for key support programs to ensure Canadians are protected and workers and businesses get the help they need to sustain them through new and necessary public health restrictions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Using regulatory authority provided in Bill C-2, the government intends to introduce new regulations that would:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Expand the <strong>Local Lockdown Program<\/strong> to include employers subject to capacity-limiting restrictions of 50 per cent or more; and reduce the current-month revenue decline threshold requirement to 25 per cent. Eligible employers will receive wage and rent subsidies from 25 per cent up to a maximum of 75 per cent, depending on their degree of revenue loss. The 12-month revenue decline test continues to not be required in order to access this support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2022 Expand the <strong>Canada Worker Lockdown<\/strong> Benefit to include workers in regions where provincial or territorial governments have introduced capacity-limiting restrictions of 50 per cent or more.
