About Pearson Test of English Academic

PTE academic is a renowned computer-based test of English for students who want to study abroad and immigrate to a foreign country. Speaking and writing

This section of the test is crafted to observe the candidate’s ability to write and speak in the English language. This session lasts for about 90 minutes or so and is further divided into 6 sub sections. This section contains reading exercises, multiple choice questions, describing images as well as an essay writing section. The essay writing section tests a student’s understanding of the language, how he perceives the topic, what are his views on that topic and most importantly the writing skills get checked.

Reading section is the second part of the PTE Academic Test which generally lasts for 40 minutes. Listening section is the final section of the PTE test which lasts for around 55 minutes or even an hour. Scoring in PTE Exams

The aim is to study regularly keeping the ultimate goal in mind i.e. to immigrate to a foreign country. PTE is a multi-Level test, like IELTS and TOEFl. The questions asked in PTE every so often test 2 English skills at a time, such as reading and writing together or reading and listening together. Do I need excellent computer skills to take the test?

How old do I have to be before I can appear for PTE?

A candidate should be at least 16 years old to appear for the PTE test. A signed parental consent is mandatory before you appear for the exam.

Do I have to appear for PTE exam in my own country?

Well that is not necessary; you can take the test at any test center around the globe. Just make sure you check what type of ID you have to submit before you give the exam. Generally, if you are appearing for the test outside your home country, perhaps you will be asked to show your passport at the test center.

How many times can I take the PTE test?

There is no barrier on how many times you can appear for the PTE test, a candidate can appear as many times as they so please. Though, you will have to wait for the results to be announced before you can retry.

What happens if my ID appears with a different name to the one I registered with at the first place? In that case you will not be allowed to take the exam and on top of that you will lose your test fee. While registering if you didn’t pay attention and made a mistake, take note of it before the exam day so that the authorities can do something to help you. No queries of this sort will be entertained on the exam day.

Do I have to pay with my own credit/Debit card?

No, if you have you can but it is not necessary, you can use your parent’s card to register for the exam. The registered name and the name on the card will be different, although that is not an issue while registering for the exam.

Are all the skills score weighted equally?

Yes, all the communicative skills score i.e. Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking are all weighted equally.

What is the appropriate time to reach the test center?

To be on the safer side the candidates must reach the test center at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the test. This provides you with adequate time to check in and pass through security formalities.

Which documents are acceptable as ID at the test center?

First of all your ID needs to be valid, non-expired and government issued and authorized. Your picture should be clear on the Id proof you are submitting Your name should be in Roman characters Should have your clear signatures on it. What should I do if I encounter a problem in the question?

Gently raise your hand and ask for test administrator’s assistance. They will give you a form, complete it and submit. This will then be submitted for further investigation. You will be contacted if there was really a mistake.

Can I correct my answers while the exam is going on?

You can correct the multiple choice question responses by clicking again on the choice you have selected.

How do I identify how much time I have left for the exam to finish?

Each section of the PTE test is individually timed. If you notice, you will see a timer in the top right corner of the screen counting down the remaining time that is allotted for the exam.

Am I allowed to leave early if I finish the test before the stipulated time?

Yes. Raise your hand gently and ask the test administrator for permission to leave early, getting the permission to leave is subject to test administrator’s discretion.

Jotting down notes is allowed during the exam?

Yes. Every candidate is provided with an erasable note board booklet (about 5 sheets of A4 paper). If you run out of space, you can ask for another booklet from the test administrator. Although, you are not allowed to make notes until the test has started.
