Education Minister advises universities to not rely on only one group of international students for their revenue
Federal education minister Dan Tehanexpressed his belief to achieve financial success in the tertiary sector through a diverse mix of students.
Australian universities are advised to not rely strongly on a particular community of students in order to fetch revenue. Education Minister Dan Tehan in his recent interaction with a colleague expressed these thoughts when told that universities rely heavily on international students for their overall livelihood.
Mr. Tehan in a statement made to Sky News commented that “I don’t think that we should be so much concerned about the fact that we have attracted a large number of foreign students each year that arrive in Australiamainlyto gain higher education. This indeed brings diversity in students’ life studying in campuses”.
What needs to be ensured is that universities understanding the fact that a diverse mix of students on the campus would help predict better financial forecasts. Therefore, they should accept applications from students belonging to various communities and not relying on any particular group of individuals.
Sources reveal that approximately one in every five students in the campus studying across various students in Australia is international students.
Several coalitions of government officials and MPs have expressed concerns during the same period about the possibility of foreign interference, particularly coming from the Chinese Communist Party towards Australian universities.
