Reading section

Now let us discuss about the reading section, it lasts for 60 minutes and consists of three passages which you will read and answer questions about. The abstracts are generally pulled out of famous books, newspapers, magazines and sometimes journals. You will need to:

  • Find some detailed information
  • Complete a diagram that is given

Writing section

Now let’s come to the writing component, it lasts for 60 minutes and comprises of two main tasks. Read the questions carefully and always make sure that you read and understand the question correctly before you start composing your text. You are required to:

  • Write an essay in retort to a statement (250 words)
  • Write an eloquent report of a table or diagram (150 words)

Speaking section

Last but not the least is the Speaking component which lasts for about 10-15 minutes. It is a face-to- face interview between the candidate and the examiner. You will need to:

  • Introduce yourself and give the interview
  • Indulge in individual talk
  • You will be asked for your views on a topic

The key is to speak fluently, using appropriate grammar and demonstrate a wide array of vocabulary. Never dither from your opinions, always support your views and ideologies, and refrain from answering questions with just a “yes” or a “no”, the examiners will sense that you are nervous;it doesn’t project a good image of you.

either before, on the same day or after the same day as the other skills test. The speaking part test date

can be set according to the candidate’s preference.

Is there a break provided between various skill tests?

Unfortunately NO, there is no break provided between reading, listening and writing test. They are

all held simultaneously and are completed in a total of 2 hours and 40 minutes. So, it is advisable to

stay fresh and eat properly before the exam.

How many times can I appear for IELTS test?

Do I use a pen or a pencil for the test?

You can use either pen or pencil for the IELTS writing test. Nevertheless, you will be directed to use

pencil for listening and reading test. Remember to carry an eraser with you.

For how long are my IELTS test score valid?

The IELTS results are valid for a period of 2 years.

How much time does it take before my results are announced?

Your results will be delivered to you within 13 days after you have appeared for the IELTS test. There

is a provision of receiving test results through sms or through online website at few test centers. In

some instances the results does get delayed than 13 days, but more often than not results arrive

within 13 days.

Where do I take the IELTS test?

You will have to visit the official IELTS website and follow the instructions that are provided.

Furthermore, you can search for the nearest IELTS test center so that you don’t have travel for a

long time to reach the test center.

Can I reappear for only one particular module if I did not score well in it?

No, unfortunately that is not possible. If you did not do well in one module it is possible that you will

have to appear for the whole test once again. As a matter of fact IELTS is intended to provide a

complete summary of a student’s English adeptness at a given period of time.

What tis the minimum age requirement for IELTS?

IELTS is advised for candidates over the age of 16. In other words, a candidate should be minimum

16 years old to appear for IELTS test.

How many test centers are there for IELTS exams?

IELTS test centers are present in almost all of the countries; you can look for the nearest test center

around you by logging on to the official IELTS website. As a matter of fact there are more than 900

test centers existing in 130 different countries.

What is the pass marks in IELTS exam?

IELTS exam is a bit different, there are no pass or fail marks. The results are arranged on a nine-band

scale. Furthermore, you receive individual scores of each skill separately with the overall result. In

which ban segment you fall under reflects your skill and capability of handling English language.

What should I carry with myself for IELTS registration?

You will need to carry the following to successfully register yourself:

What happens if I am unable to appear for my IELTS test on the scheduled date due to an emergency?

If you are unable to appear at the provided test center on the pre-scheduled test date then

unfortunately you won’t be able to reschedule that test again. You will be marked as a “no Show” by

the IELTS exam authority. However, sometimes exceptions are made with some conditions.

Can I leave the exam center if I finish early?

No, you are not permitted to leave the exam room while the exam is still going on. You should utilize

your time for reviewing the questions you have answered.
