After through research and consultation, the government of Australia has officially released the immigration targets for the period 2018 - 2019. These numbers are for skilled migration program. The immigration target has been the same as that of the period 2017 - 2018. A total of 186,515 immigrants will be taken in as skilled migrants.   The breakdown for the plan is as follows:

• Skill Total: 1,28,550
• Family Total: 57,400
• Special Eligibility: 565

  The budget process of Australia’s Government sets these targets for immigration. These targets are revised each year. The immigration plans are crafted after taking input from the public as well as shareholders and businesses. These numbers do not include the number of refugees that will be taken in by Australia.  

Recent Changes made to Australia Visa Processes

  There are numerous changes that have come into effect recently and may impact your application. Some of these changes have been mentioned below:  

Global Talent Visa

  The new visa was launched to attract highly skilled workers from all over the world. The Global Talent Scheme Pilot program was launched on 1 July and enabled business to acquire top talent from around the globe. The pilot program is only active for 12 months from the date of initiation, after which its fate will be decided by its effectiveness and the Government’s decision.  

New South Wales Government Skilled Migration

  The New South Wales Government has started its immigration program for the period 2018 - 2019. The program was closed for some time and was only relaunched recently. If you wish to live and work in New South Wales, you can do so by applying for a Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190.)  

Low Skill Migration

  Australian government has officially opened doors for low skilled workers. Now with the most basic hospitality and farm skills, you will be eligible for applying for a work visa in Australia. This would be a great way for Australia to target low paid jobs and labour. David Coleman, the Minister of Immigration said, “In particular, we are looking closely at ways of filling employment gaps in regional areas.”   It turns out, high skilled migration isn’t enough to sustain the economy of a country. Australia doesn’t want to commit the same mistake as Japan by not taking in low skilled workers. Various sectors like Agriculture, Dairy and Meat Processing industries also require migrant workers as more citizens are leaving for the big cities.
